Thermostatted Planar Billiards as Simple Models of Mass Transport in Microporous Membranes

Abstract


The development and analysis of models of transport of matter is necessary to describe the anomalous transport phenomena in various applications, including some of nanotechnological interest, like the manufacturing of microporous membranes whose size pores is about that of the molecules. Nevertheless, chaotic dynamics has evidenced an interesting stabilization of the transport properties in microporous media.

The small pores do not allow to apply directly neither the fluid dynamics laws nor the kinetic theories. In this context thermostatted planar billiards can be proposed as models since the interstices between obstacles can be considered as the pores of the membranes.

We will show some results of both applied and theoretical interest.
